About Me

Hi, I’m Ashley

I design and make jewellery in my little workshop by the sea in Brixham, Devon. I love to create bold, unusual designs for people who are looking for something to help them stand out from the crowd.

I create small collections of one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces, and I also make bespoke pieces and remodel existing jewellery. I work in silver and gold and particularly love combining the two into mixed metal pieces. I’m also a bit obsessed with gemstones, especially ones with unusual colours, shapes or inclusions.

Growing up, I was always making things. I loved drawing and creating so when I finished school I did an Art Foundation course. I then went on to study Contemporary Crafts at Coventry University, and it was there that I discovered jewellery making. I immediately fell in love with it, working with my hands, problem-solving and most of all being able to wear what I had made and show it off!

At the bench since 2010

I have been working as a bench jeweller since 2010, doing jewellery repairs, which has helped me hone my skills. I made my first commission piece on the kitchen table of my shared flat in 2014. Now I’m lucky enough to have my own workshop where I create my commissions and collection pieces. There’s something so satisfying about taking a sheet of metal and transforming it into something beautiful to wear.

I hand make everything myself - designing, sawing, forming, soldering, hammering, polishing and stone setting. I’m happiest at my bench with music blasting and a cup of tea to hand creating something new.

Inspired by the sea

Living and working in Brixham means the sea is never far away and it inevitably finds its way into my work.  This used to be more literal with sea creature and boat jewellery but now it’s more the movement, textures and colours - hammered surfaces, organic shapes and the way the light moves over the metal.  I want my jewellery to capture a little of that feeling of being beside the sea - wild, weathered, colourful and a bit unpredictable.
I love interesting textures, chunky statement jewellery and pieces with a bit of attitude.

Jewellery with a story

I love working with clients to create unique jewellery to mark important milestones. It means so much to me that people choose me to make engagement rings, wedding rings and gifts for important anniversaries and big birthdays. Whether you have a very definite idea or just a gemstone, a story or a vague “I want something a bit different”, I can work with you to design something that feels personal.

I also remodel heirloom jewellery into more contemporary pieces you will love to wear. Perhaps you’ve inherited a piece that isn’t your style. Maybe there’s a ring sitting unworn in a drawer, or a collection of old gold that means far too much to simply sell. I can work with your existing gold and gemstones to create something that keeps the sentimental connection while feeling modern and unmistakably you.

When I’m not at the bench

There’s a good chance I’m listening to live music. I love a festival, loud music, a good pair of boots and getting out and about with my husband and two kids. I can never resist bright coloured, statement clothes, so I suppose it’s no surprise that my jewellery tends to be bold too.
